Vidwest Is at a Crossroads

For over five years, Vidwest has powered creativity, projects, businesses, and community connections,

but funding may end in 2026.

Support from the City of Columbia, which provides half of our operating costs, is set to end next year. Without it, the future of community media in our city is uncertain.

We need your voice to show local leaders that a vibrant, accessible media center matters.

For over five years, Vidwest has been the heart of community media in Mid-Missouri, your place to learn, create, collaborate, and bring your ideas to life. From low-cost studio space and production equipment to hands-on media training, Vidwest has helped local creators launch businesses, explore careers, grow skills, and connect with others who share their passion.

But today, the future of Vidwest, and community media in Columbia, is at risk. The City of Columbia, which currently funds roughly half of our operating costs, has indicated it may end support after 2026. Without this funding, maintaining studios, equipment, volunteer support, and media education will become impossible.

That’s why we’re calling on the very community that makes Vidwest thrive: you. Your stories, your voices, and your presence matter. Together, we can show city leaders the value of community media and fight to secure Vidwest for years to come.
